GNBCC’s GM Visits Sierra Leone

Since 2016, GNBCC has been involved in the setup and establishment of subsidiaries in Sierra Leone and Liberia, as part of the Orange Guide Project funded by the Royal Netherlands Embassy. Both countries are under the responsibility of the Netherlands Embassy in Accra and as such our subsidiaries act as “Orange Guides”.  This year. the challenge for both the SLNBCC - Sierra Leone Netherlands Business and Culture Council as well as the LNBCC- Liberia Netherlands Business and Culture Council is to become financially responsible for their own income generation based on Membership, Projects, and Assignments. In order to prepare for this, GNBCC is helping them with the planning and preparations.

Last Monday GNBCC’s GM visited the Sierra Leone team in Freetown– Binta Jalloh & Memuna Bayoh – to meet with SLNBCC Members and partners (Esther Kamara is in The Netherlands). We visited KEK Insurance Brokers, Slecad, Bennimix, SL Breweries (Heineken) and Country Lodge Hotel.  Also, a Member lunch was organised on Wednesday where SLIEPA , Cordaid, PUM, Nexus Shipping Company, Universal Freight Services (Air France rep), Kabia Farms, AIIAC Ltd, Zenith Bank, and others were present.  The topic of the lunch was the current business climate in Sierra Leone.

Compared to Ghana, Sierra Leone still has a long way to go and the business climate is much more challenging. On the other hand, due to the day to day challenges in business, there is a need for an organisation such as the SLNBCC which can support visiting delegations of companies or NGO’s from outside Sierra Leone in all their logistics and appointments with partner companies or the government. In that sense, the business model has a bright future and SLNBCC looks with confidence to the future.
