Project Update: Women in Business Kick-Off Event

On October 5th, 2023, the inaugural commencement of the Women in Business Project took place with a Kick-Off event hosted at the La Villa Boutique Hotel. This event exclusively catered to the selected women participants in the project, providing them with an opportunity to meet their mentors for the very first time.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from the Deputy Ambassador of the KIngdom of the Netherlands, Wendy van Meel. Mrs. Wendy van Meel shared her personal journey and imparted inspirational words to the aspiring women in the room, emphasizing the importance of perseverance on the path to success.

One of the prominent keynote speakers at the event was industry expert and AGI Chairperson in Agribusiness, Fatima Alimohamed. She shared her personal journey and offered valuable insights on effective product marketing and branding, which resonated with the attendees.

As a guest speaker, Helene Weesie, the former Managing Director of Guinness Ghana, shared her experiences and provided valuable guidance to the women on their entrepreneurial journey and leadership, drawing from her time at Guinness Ghana.

The mentors were also given the chance to introduce themselves and share their own journeys of whom more than half are GNBCC members: Abena Ntrakwah (Managing Partner at Ntrakwah & Co), Celestine Danso Arhin( Country Manager at Holland Greentech), Adelaide Benneh Prempeh (Managing Partner at B&P Associates), Evelyn Lokko (Country Manager of Phillips Ghana Ltd) , Sandra Hado (Country Manager of Beyond Beans), Barbara Davies(Executive Director at The Advantage Group), Ethel Setordzie( Auditor Seniour at RDK), Elsie Appeadu (MD of Delft Imaging Ghana),  and Shirley Tony Kum(Corporate Communications Manager of Vivo Energy Ghana) but also chair of the Horticulture Business Platform, Madam Catherine Krobo Edusei (MD of Edentree Ltd) and horticulture expert Dr Florence Vanderpuye (MD of Rosh Pinnah Ventures) , highlighting the experiences that brought them to their current positions.

Throughout the morning we also heard pitches from our mentees with various offerings such as; specialty chocolate, plantain chips, skin care products, cereals, ornamental flowers and much more.

The activities start in November, and all parties are excited to be a part of this program and look forward to the results and outcomes.
