Launch of Community Garden at HGT

Last week Friday, the 1st March 2024, some GNBCC Staff and the Horticulture Business Platform Core Members, were invited to attend the launch and unveiling of the Community Garden made by Holland Green Tech.at the Fafraha Community Senior High School campus in the Adentan Municipality. The Adenta Community Garden project aims to provide residents with valuable skills in vegetable cultivation and entrepreneurship.

Participants in the project will have the opportunity to learn how to grow a variety of crops, including peppers, maize, cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, and more.

The garden boasts a variety of crops and vegetables such as different types of peppers, sweet corn, various cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, kohlrabi, cabbage, lettuce, watermelon, okra, carrots, spring onions, mint, celery, and more.

Holland Greentech, a social enterprise with a strong track record in horticulture across Africa, will provide inputs, technical support, and training to help participants achieve success in their agricultural ventures.

The Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ghana, H.E. Mr. Jeroen Verheul-Dutch, emphasized the importance of farming and smart agriculture in boosting incomes and ensuring food security. He highlighted the success of the Netherlands, a small country with a thriving agricultural sector, as an example for Ghana to follow.

The Adenta Community Garden project is a collaborative effort involving Holland Greentech, Defarmercist, the Horticulture Business Platform (HBP), the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and the Adentan Municipal Assembly.

The launch event was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ghana, H.E. Mr. Jeroen Verheul-Dutch, the founder of Holland Greentech International, Mr. Norbert van der Straaten, Ms. Celestina Danso Arhin, Country Director of Holland Greentech Ghana, Ms. Catherine Krobo Adusei, Chairperson of the Horticulture Business Platform (HBP), Ms. Portia Edu-Essandoh, Deputy Coordinating Director of Adentan Municipal Assembly, Mr. Edward Fayah, Headmaster of Fafraha Community Senior High School (FACOSH), and representatives from various organizations.

Overall, the Adenta Community Garden project represents an exciting opportunity for residents to gain valuable skills, generate income, and contribute to food security in their communities.
