Dutch Embassy's Trade Development Initiative: Sandra Dossa's Strategic Visit to Ghana

On August 14th, Sandra Dossa, the newly appointed Trade Development Advisor at the Netherlands Embassy in Benin, visited Ghana to gain valuable insights into the country’s successful trade practices. A key part of her itinerary was visiting GNBCC, as part of a strategic initiative to establish a similar framework in Benin.

Sandra’s day was filled with meetings and company visits to some GNBCC members, including People’s Pension Trust, where she met with the Managing Director and GNBCC board chairman, Kofi Polley, followed by Delft Imaging, where she met Managing Director, Elsie Appeadu and her team. These interactions provided her with a deep understanding of the business and investment climate in Ghana and some insights about the significance of the chamber to its members. The members expressed how positively the GNBCC network has impacted their businesses and network, noting that the implementation of impactful projects sets the chamber apart from others. She also visited the Chairperson of the Horticulture Business Platform (HBP), Catherine Krobo Edusei Benson, CEO of Eden Tree, a GNBCC Member.

At GNBCC, Sandra was warmly received by Naana Biney Ohemeng, the Office Manager, who ensured her visit went smoothly. Tjalling Yme Wiarda, GNBCC’s General Manager, provided Sandra with an overview of the strong partnership between GNBCC and the Netherlands Embassy, highlighting some of his key initiatives on anti-corruption and the business environment in Ghana. Grace Agorigo presented an overview of GNBCC’s membership, services, and PSD projects, followed by detailed insights from project managers Tracy Mensah, Jemima R. Rockson, and Barnabas K. Apom on their respective projects, such as the Dutch Export Academy (DEA), Women in Business, Horticulture Business Platform (HBP), and Horticulture Business Challenge (HBC).

Sandra’s feedback was highly positive, reflecting the value of the discussions and engagements throughout the day. She was also presented with a GNBCC gift bag, which included the GNBCC 2023 Annual Magazine, the Business Climate Report (created with IMANI AFRICA), the GNBCC Investment Guide (in collaboration with Francois Meysembourg), and products from Women in Business mentees.

This visit represents a significant step in enhancing trade and economic relations between the Netherlands and West Africa.
