Azumah, Razaaly ready for ‘Diplo Rumble’

The European Union (EU) delegation to Ghana on Sunday launched an exhibition bout between the EU Ambassador, Mr Ichard Ramiandrasoa Razaaly, and Ghanaian boxing legend, Mr Azuma Nelson, in Accra.

Dubbed, ‘Diplo Rumble’, the exhibition bout, to be held at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday is aimed at showcasing the boxing talents of young athletes in Bukom and its environs.

It also formed part of events outlined by the EU to mark the celebration of this year’s European month.

Fans would also be entertained by 10 other exciting bouts involving juvenile, youth, and elite amateur boxers from the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), the main partner of the event.

Speaking at the launch of the event, Mr Razaaly, a former amateur boxer in his youthful days, said the exhibition bout transcended beyond boxing as it promoted friendship, mutual respect, shared interest, and values.

He paid tribute to Azumah and other boxing legends for the contributions made in developing boxing in the country while calling on relevant stakeholders to invest in it.

Azumah commended the EU delegation to Ghana for including boxing in the activities to celebrate the European month, and also advised young boxers to be disciplined.

The President of the GBF, Mr Bernard Quartey, also noted that finance remained a challenge for the boxing federation and, therefore, called for more partnerships and support from international and corporate organisations.

The Vice President of the GBF, Mr Dauda Fuseini, said the GBF would provide the platform for athletes to showcase their talents and determination on the global stage.

According to the EU delegation, proceeds from the bout would go to the GBF to be used for the development of the sport.

Tickets for the event would be sold at GH¢ 5.
